"Accidental" Housewife

As I briefly mentioned in my About Me section, I chose to call this blog the "Accidental" Real Housewife of Dublin because I'm not working at the moment. I quit a successful job in Chicago and chose to decline the generous offer of working remotely, in the hopes of finding a local job to get international experience and meet new people. Luckily, I quickly navigated the interview process and accepted a great offer at a top technology firm. Things were looking good!

Unfortunately, due to the convoluted process of obtaining a spousal work permit in Ireland, I find myself beginning a job search all over again after almost 5 months of waiting (long story!). Having experience in the hiring world, I certainly have a newfound respect for all the candidates dealing with visa issues, who simply want to put their talents to work...

So, I'm an accidental, unintentional housewife against my will!

Everyone tells me to enjoy this time and, believe me, I've tried and occasionally succeeded, but one of the many things I've learned about myself is that I like going to work more than I thought. I don't relish the idea of putting my feet up and letting my hubby bring home the bacon -- in fact, that couldn't be farther from the truth and I'm losing my MIND not working!

Let me say that I think being a Stay-at-home Mom is a wonderful (and very hard) job, and my brothers and I were fortunate to have our mother around when we were growing up. As far as a housewife without kids, what do these women do all day?

To each their own, but let's just say I wouldn't make the best casting choice for the housewives series in Dublin.... which apparently ALREADY EXISTS as of this year! Yikes!!

Which one would I be? Ha

So, until I get botox and try out for the new season, I'm doing my best to remain optimistic about the next couple years. This unique situation has served to strengthen me and has encouraged me to write and share our experiences.

Stay tuned for updates on our lives here thus far, and the lighter, less dramatic side of being a temporary lady of leisure!

  1. Nice start Ab. And who knows, Dublin Housewives might be your reality TV calling. I would skip the botox, duck lips, and over-smoldering eye look though.
